Scientific biography:
In 1968 V.I.Balakshy graduated from the Department of Physics in Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) with Highest Distinction. After graduating from post-graduate classes at the Department of Physics in MSU, he got in 1971 his Ph.D. degree in Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics. His Ph.D. project title was "Ultrasonic methods of optical beam scanning". In 2000 he got his Doctor of Sciences degree after defence of a thesis on the subject "Acousto-optic effect and its applications in systems of optical information processing". Since 1971 he is at the Department of Physics of MSU, at present, he is a Professor of Oscillation Physics Chair.
Publications:
Professor Balakshy has published more than 170 papers in scientific journals in Russia and abroad, such as Journal of Communication Technology & Electronics, Quantum Electronics, Technical Physics, Optics and Spectroscopy, Acoustical Physics, Instruments and Experimental Techniques, Applied Optics, Optical Engineering, Journal of Optics, Optics & Laser Technology, Journal of Modern Optics, Acta Acustica – Acustica, Ultrasonics, et al. He is a coauthor of the monographs "Physical principles of acousto-optics" (1985) and "Optical information processing" (1987), as well as the textbook "Physics of oscillation phenomena through examples and tasks" (2011).

Additional information
Professor Balakshy is one of the leading experts in the fields of acousto-optics and optical information processing. He has published more than 300 scientific papers and he is owner of 18 national patents. His setup "Ultrasonic deflector for infrared spectral range" was awarded by a medal at National Achievement Exhibition in Moscow. Balakshy was a supervisor of 62 Graduate Student research projects and 9 Ph.D. projects. From 1992 he is a member of Physics Department Council and a member of Dissertation Council at MSU.
